CJ Logistics America CEO Ed Bowersox has been named a 2021 Logistics Rainmaker by DC Velocity magazine. Rainmakers, individuals who have distinguished themselves both personally and professionally in the logistics field, are profiled each year in the July issue of the magazine. Nominations come from readers, past Rainmakers and the DC Velocity editorial staff, and the winners are selected by the DC Velocity Editorial Advisory Board.
In his profile, Bowersox observed that the evolution of technology and the rising stature of the logistics industry are two of the biggest changes he’s seen in his long career. “Supply chain is a tech-forward, tech-driven critical business function that’s now getting visibility all the way up to the boardroom level,” he said.
As for what hasn’t changed, Bowersox emphasized dependence on talent and the need to mentor, develop and retain talent. “Systems and technology will only take you so far. It is talent and relationships—the human element—that keep businesses going,” he said. “Our company was built on strategic partnerships. Partnerships ebb and flow, but as long as you are being creative, solving problems, bringing value to your customers, and differentiating yourself in the marketplace, there is the ability to maintain and build partnerships. Capabilities, partnerships, and talent are a winning combination.”
