Meagan Elkes, LMI, Rural Hall, recently won first place in a student paper competition for APICS, a global community for end-to-end supply chain excellence. Students from University of North Carolina Greensboro, North Carolina Agriculture and Technology (UNCG), Wake Forest and Guilford Technical Community College (GTCC) all submitted papers.
Meagan’s research examined the impending skills gap in the supply chain and manufacturing industry. She presented her research on the causes and effects of the gap, and on what can be done to address the situation, to peers in various roles of Logistics and Supply Chain in the Triad Area at UNCG.
Meagan also spoke on the importance of investing in students in the supply chain industry at the President’s Gala at Guilford Technical Community College. She discussed her venture into the supply chain field as a woman, wife and mother and how the President’s Society’s various scholarships help equip supply chain students with the skills needed for the changing industry. Meagan has served for the past two years on GTCC’s board as a student representative and as their Logistics and Supply Chain Student President; these will be closing remarks on the program before graduating in May. She is one of two students speaking.
“I am very excited to speak about how my venture has led me to two great companies, Volvo Group and, ultimately DSC Logistics, and to working in a field I am very passionate and excited about,” Meagan said. “It has certainly been a time of reflection as three years ago I was in a very different place than I am now; and now I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else.”
