On Supply Chain Professionals Appreciation Day, CJ Logistics joins in appreciation for the supply chain professionals in our organization and around the world who are responsible for keeping the supply chain moving throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and its many impacts on industries and commerce.
Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) in 2018 designated the third Monday in May as a day to honor the professionals responsible for the buy, make, move and sell activities that comprise the modern supply chain and to celebrate the contributions they make to the global economy.
In his column in the Quarter 1 2021 edition of CSCMP’s Supply Chain Quarterly, recently-retired CSCMP President and Chief Executive Officer Rick Blasgen looked back at how supply chain professionals had to respond to a “crisis that had a global impact on supply, demand, and people while also adapting to an influx of new technologies.”
“What are the lessons I take away from last year? First, all the professionals in supply chain management know they need to be ready for the unexpected, to prepare for scenarios that are unlikely, and to respond with agility and flexibility to ensure our customers are served,” Blasgen said. “And yes, at the lowest possible total delivered cost, which is one of the main foundations of modern-day supply chain management.”
Blasgen also looked ahead and advised everyone to remember the importance of people in any supply chain. “While tools and technology will always be evolving and available, leadership is difficult to replace,” he said. “It is always the people that make it happen.”
CJ Logistics America CEO Ed Bowersox has spoken often of his appreciation for the CJ Logistics team. “Our success depends on the commitment and strength of our employees, especially during these challenging times,” Bowersox said earlier this year. “This difficult time has revealed so much about who we are as a company, and who we are as people. We’ve learned that we are a resilient, unstoppable team. I am thankful for all that our employees do, and for their commitment to the team and to our customers. I am proud to be working with all of them.”
