As National Forklift Safety Day 2023 is being observed today, CJ Logistics America’s annual Summer of Safety initiative is underway, renewing the company’s commitment to maintaining a safe workplace environment. Workplace safety is an everyday priority at CJ Logistics and the team understands how important it is to reinforce the message of forklift safety.
“The safety and well-being of our forklift operators—of all CJ Logistics employees—is our highest priority,” said Joe Smiesko, Vice President, Safety, Security & Compliance. “We emphasize that it takes the whole team to focus on safety and work together to reduce the hazards observed while working, and we ask all employees to make safety a priority in everything they do.”
National Forklift Safety Day, an annual event sponsored by the Industrial Truck Association (ITA), calls attention to the importance of forklift safety practices and operator training. A conference featuring experts from OSHA, forklift manufacturers, and an industrial safety consulting firm, hosted by the Industrial Truck Association (ITA) is the main event today.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) estimates that almost 900,000 forklifts are currently in operation in the US, moving food and beverage, consumer goods of all types, medical devices and more in warehouses, distribution centers, manufacturing facilities and stores, and that nearly 100,000 workers are injured each year from accidents involving the forklifts. OSHA also estimates that nearly 70% of all forklift accidents can be prevented with proper training or policy.
