Safety isn't just a program at CJ Logistics. It's a guiding principle. Our commitment to protecting our people has produced industry-leading results, and we're not slowing down.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
- CJ Logistics maintains a Total Incident Rate (TIR) more than 70% below the industry average.
- Our partnership with OneTrack has driven a 73% reduction in potential safety events across our warehouse network, with some sites achieving up to 98% reduction.
- We earned first place in Division 1 at the Truckload Carriers Association's 50th annual Fleet Safety Awards, and our transportation division maintains a DOT-incident-free record on the road.
At CJ Logistics America, we believe that a safe operation is a successful operation. Safety is the foundation of everything we do, from the way we design our warehouse processes to the technology we put in our drivers' hands. It shapes how we invest, how we train, and how we show up for our employees, our partners, and the communities we serve every day.
We're proud of our results, and we share them openly because we believe transparency drives accountability. Our current Total Incident Rate sits more than 70% below the industry average, a figure that reflects not a single initiative, but a company-wide commitment that runs through every level of our organization.
Built in Culture, Driven by Leaders, Scaled by Tech. These three principles define our approach to safety, and here's how each one comes to life across our network.
Built in Culture: Safety as a Core Value
Safety at CJ Logistics America starts with people. We've cultivated an environment where every employee, from forklift operators to site leaders, understands that safety is both a personal responsibility and a team effort.
"We value our employees, and we focus on maintaining a safe environment for everyone to work in," said Joe Smiesko, Vice President, Safety, Security and Compliance. "We emphasize that it takes everyone as a team to work together and prioritize safety in everything we do."
One of the ways we bring that culture to life is through our annual Summer of Safety initiative, a program that has run for many years across our warehouse network. Summer of Safety blends education with engagement, spreading awareness of best practices while making safety something employees actively participate in, not just hear about in a training module.
The highlight of the program is our national forklift skills competition, now in its third year. Warehouse employees across the country compete in regional events, demonstrating the skills they've honed while serving our customers. Winners advance to a national finals event featuring three categories (standup, sitdown, and electric pallet jacks) where participants navigate obstacle courses, stack and re-stack pallets, and even shoot basketballs into bins using their forklifts. Competitors are judged on both speed and accuracy, and the event celebrates the pride and precision our teams bring to their work every day.
Events like these reinforce a simple truth: when people take ownership of safety, the results follow.
Driven by Leaders: Safety on the Road
Our commitment to safety extends well beyond the warehouse. CJ Logistics maintains a DOT-incident-free record and employs an integrated technology stack designed to support drivers at every turn.
Our approach combines three powerful layers:
Real-Time Awareness. Through our partnership with Drivewyze by Fleetworthy, drivers receive live, proactive alerts that help them stay safe and compliant while on the road.
In-Depth Insights. We use Samsara to gain a clear view of every mile, providing the context we need to understand and respond to on-road events.
Targeted Coaching. These insights are paired with Tenstreet to deliver specific, data-driven training directly to our drivers, ensuring that every coaching conversation is grounded in real performance data, not assumptions.
This integrated approach earned CJ Logistics the first-place award in Division 1 at the Truckload Carriers Association's 50th annual Fleet Safety Awards, presented at the TCA Truckload 2026 conference. This prestigious recognition, from one of the industry's most respected organizations, affirms what our teams demonstrate every day: when you give great people the right information at the right time, safety becomes second nature and reliability becomes a constant.
Scaled by Tech: AI-Powered Visibility in the Warehouse
Our culture and leaders set the standard. Technology helps us sustain and scale it.
Since 2019, CJ Logistics has partnered with OneTrack to deploy an AI-powered Warehouse Operating System across more than 40 locations in North America. Using proprietary AI camera sensors, real-time video alerts, and customizable analytics, the platform delivers complete visibility into warehouse operations, enabling us to be proactive rather than reactive.
The results have been transformational:
- 73% reduction in potential safety events across the CJ Logistics America network, with some individual sites achieving up to 98% reduction.
- 60% decrease in product damage, improving shipment quality and reducing operational costs.
- 11% average increase in Units Per Hour (UPH), driving efficiency and value for our customers.
But the impact goes beyond the numbers. At our Romeoville, Illinois facility, OneTrack enables the team to resolve misplaced inventory in minutes, a task that previously took hours. Across the network, the platform identifies unsafe behaviors, optimization opportunities, and potential quality issues before they become problems.
"There isn't a ceiling on the visibility that OneTrack can give us," said Smiesko. "As long as we keep evolving as an operation, OneTrack continues to grow with us. We started with impacts but now we see unsafe behaviors, optimization opportunities, potential quality issues. It's transformed how we operate across our entire network. We can truly be proactive in our operation."
Empowering Teams Through Smarter Coaching
Great safety outcomes don't come from technology alone. They come from people who are supported, equipped, and set up to succeed.
CJ Logistics and OneTrack have jointly developed next-generation labor management capabilities that pair dynamic labor goals with Warehouse Management System (WMS) data. The AI analyzes operational processes in real time and surfaces actionable insights when benchmarks aren't being met, helping supervisors understand where their teams need the most support on any given day.
These insights include video footage that pinpoints an employee's most challenging tasks, enabling supervisors to deliver tailored, specific coaching rather than generic reminders. It's a tool designed to remove roadblocks and unlock potential, turning every shift into an opportunity for growth.
"For us, it's all about keeping employees on task, motivated, and removing roadblocks for them," said Laura Adams, PMO. "OneTrack brings automated alerts and guided next steps which allow our leadership teams to focus their resources and make the most intelligent decisions on how to improve operations for our employees and for our customers."
Blake Martin, Director of Engineering, added: "Our partnership with OneTrack has been transformational. The ROI is immediately there. The visibility has allowed us to create an environment where our people can succeed and our customers can thrive."
Safety Beyond Our Walls: Fighting Human Trafficking
At CJ Logistics, safety doesn't stop at the boundaries of our operations. Our drivers travel the nation's highways every day, and we believe that reach comes with responsibility.
Since 2022, we've partnered with Truckers Against Trafficking (TAT) to train our drivers in recognizing and reporting signs of human trafficking. Every day, our drivers are on the front lines, and by equipping them with TAT's comprehensive training, we empower them to be vigilant and proactive in the fight against this crime.
"For our organization, safety isn't just about delivering goods on time," said Brad Nuffer, COO. "It's about ensuring that our roads and communities are safe for everyone."
Looking Ahead
Our results, including a TIR more than 70% below the industry average, a DOT-incident-free record on the road, a 73% reduction in warehouse safety events, and national recognition from the TCA, are achievements we're proud of. But in safety, there is no finish line. Every metric represents a person, and every improvement means someone went home safer than the day before.
We'll keep investing in the technology, training, and culture that make CJ Logistics a leader in safety, not because of the business benefits, but because our people deserve nothing less.
Let's stay safe, strong, and committed to our customers and each other.
